Mariell D. Smith, 88 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 at the Bedrock Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Lake City.  She was born in Coffee County, Alabama, the only daughter and youngest of three children, to the late Bascom Capp Daughtry and Gladys Mae Sanders Daughtry.  Ms. Smith was raised in Lake City and attended Columbia High School.  She loved her church family and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years.  Ms. Smith worked in labor and delivery and Lake Shore Hospital and retired with 30 years of service.  She enjoyed traveling after her retirement and spending time with her friends and family.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Giles B. "Smitty" Smith; the father of her children, Frederick Braden; two brothers, Marvin Daughtry and Harvey "Buttermilk" Daughtry; and one son, Robert "Pee Wee" Braden.

Survivors include her children, Frederick D. "Butch" Braden, David Braden (Donna) and Lora Mae Yates all of Lake City; 14 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ron Thompson, pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment will follow at Siloam Methodist Church Cemetery.  A time of visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
