Marie Rozelle
Kennon
August 21, 1928 – April 11, 2025
Marie Rozelle Kennon, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Grand Cypress Assisted Living Facility in Lake City. A life-long resident of Lake City all of her life; and she is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Mike Kennon and her brother, Freddie Rozelle. She was born on August 21, 1928 to the late Edward Rozelle and Dolly Rozelle Barracca. She graduated from Columbia High School and also attended Stetson University. She worked for the Columbia County School System and retired from the Lake City Community College.
Marie was a member of the Lake City Women's Club and active in the First Presbyterian Church. Her interest were golfing, tennis, bridge and fishing with Mike and family at Suwannee. Marie was known for her motherly and caring instincts. She always opened her home to her daughter's friends that needed a place to stay for a long or short period of time. She was a teacher, friend and foster mother to many.
Marie is survived by her two daughters, Recie (Mike) Davis and Laura (Glenn) Hunter both of Lake City; four grandchildren, Travis (Amy) Hunter, Kennon Hunter, Jennifer Bonner and Jeffrey Davis (Giana); ten great-grandchildren, Kai, Kam and Kennon Bonner, Dominic and Celeste Davis, Kaylin, Alaina and Brynn Hunter and Channing and Everleigh Hunter.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Grand Cypress Assisted Living Facility for the loving care that they provided to their mother and grandmother. Thanks to Vitas Hospice Staff for their hands on care, comfort, and support that they provided Marie during this transition into her everlasting life. Also a special thanks to her great true friend, Cheryl Whigham, for her loving care throughout the care of both Mrs. Marie and Mr. Mike Kennon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the Lake City Humane Society, 1932 NW Shelter Glen, Lake City, FL, 32055 of Habitat for Humanity, 421 SW Chapel Hill Street, Lake City, FL, 32025.
A memorial service for Mrs. Kennon will be conducted on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ken Goodrich and Pastor Mike Breechen officiating with a reception immediately following at the church fellowship hall.
