Marguerite Rogers Keaton died Tuesday night, March 19, 2013 at the William Childs Hospice Home in Palm Bay, Florida. Marguerite, or ""Marnu"" as she is known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, would have been 95 years old in July. Marnu, widow of the late W.C. Keaton, Jr., is survived by three children, Tony (Sheila) Keaton, Patsy (Bill) Cross and Marolyn (Craig) Holder; four grandchildren and numerous great grand children, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born during World War I, raised on depression-era Georgia and South Carolina farms, Marguerite, the youngest girl, in a family of four boys and four girls, exuded the high moral fiber and Christian ethic taught to her by her Mother and Father. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City which she served faithfully for sixty plus years. Marguerite was the unsung partner in Keaton's Toyland, the primary business of W.C. Keaton Jr. Together they built a main street store, which was the second oldest business on N. Marion St. by the time it closed after fifty years. When her oldest children went off to college, Marguerite started a Kindergarten at her home on Madison Street,
which she ran successfully for a number of years, thus exerting a positive Christian influence on many present-day community members. But mostly she was a Mom and Grand-Mom. She was always there for her family offering good advice, help when needed and Love always. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services at the First Baptist Church of Lake City, will be held on Friday afternoon, March 22,at 2:00 o'clock, with viewing and visitation Thursday night from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3596 S. U.S. Hwy 441, Lake City, FL 32025, (386) 752-1954. Donations in Marguerite's honor may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake City at 182 NE Justice Street, Lake City, FL 32025 if you like, but flowers are always welcome.
