Irene Buckholts Smith of Lake City, Florida passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024. Mrs. Smith was 93 years old and was the oldest of eight children born to the late John Robert and Carrie Mae Buckholts. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of The Cross Church in Ellisville, Florida.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; a daughter, Diane Edenfield; her parents, John Robert and Carrie Mae Buckholts; a sister, Kathleen Preston; and three brothers, Willie, Jimmy and Jay Buckholts.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Higgs (Ed); grandson, Randy Higgs (Cherisse); great-grandsons, Cade and Ryder Higgs; daughter, Louise Garcia (Ernest); grandson, Jay Wilcox (Shay); Thomas (Kim) and Andrew Garcia; granddaughter, Amanda Wilcox; great-granddaughter, Kayla Knight (Jamie); great-grandson, Justin Wilcox; and great-great-grandson Bryson Knight; son-in-law, Kenneth Edenfield; granddaughters, Kendra Victoria and Rachel Tomalis (David); great-granddaughters, Haven Tomalis and Isabella Victoria.  She is also survived by her brothers Harold (Nita) Buckholts; Joel Buckholts; and Wade Buckholts.

Many thanks to the staff at Solaris Healthcare who took care of her the past few years and who made her journey comfortable and helped whenever asked and answered the many questions. Thanks to Haven Hospice for the end of life care.

Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 3:30 PM in the Memorial Cemetery, Lake City FL, with Rev. Randy Ogburn, officiating. In lieu of flowers, request donations to Solaris Healthcare Activities Department, 560 SW McFarlane Avenue, Lake City, FL 32025, for an "Elvis" appearance. Elvis brings many smiles and laughs to the residents.
