Margaret Carol "Peggy" Meridith McKenzie, 81, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 11, 2023, at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness. She was born in Pennsylvania on August 9, 1941 and has made the Branford and Lake City area her home since 1988. She was the Manager for the family business, Wood Products, Inc. with her husband for many years before retiring. Once she retired, her family kept her busy with their other business, Quality Equipment & Parts, Inc. until her health forced her to retire. Her and her husband George also owned and operated M&M Trucking, Inc. for many years as well as had a homeless shelter and outreach center (Vision Outreach Center) in Branford for a number of years. You would never find a more giving person than Peggy; she was the most giving person you would have ever met. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester Meridith and Esther Marie Roland Lightner; her husband of over 34 years, George N. McKenzie; and her siblings, Billy Henry Meridith, Betty Lightner, Kay Lightner and Mary Paula Mains.
She is survived by her son, Randy McKenzie (Tina) of Lake City; daughters, Teresa A. Roth (Jack) of Texas and Gail M. McAllister of Pennsylvania; Brothers, Gary Meridith of Pennsylvania, B. Russell Lightner (Ruth) of Pennsylvania and James R. Lightner (Sue) of Alabama. Sisters, Norma Gail (Dink), Janet Ronk (John), Donna Martino (Tony), Joyce O'Shell (Tom), Kathy Mellott (Sam), Pam Lunger (Bob) andVirginia Williams (Don) all of Pennsylvania. Four grandchildren, Ryan McKenzie (Kristina), Reanna Dunham (Sam), Rachel Royster (Jamie) and Rylee McKenzie (Adrianna) all of Lake City; and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service for Peggy will be conducted on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Central with Pastor Lonnie Johns officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Pregnancy Care Center of Lake City, 130 NW Hilton Ave, Lake City, FL, 32055.
