It is with heavy hearts that we announce the news of the passing of Marcus Paul Ernsting. Marc passed away suddenly on May 26th, 2025 at the HCA hospital in Lake City, FL after a brief illness. His unexpected passing leaves a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Born on August 13th, 1956 in Breese Illinois, Marc was the son of Howard Ernsting and Maydell (Wilson) Ernsting. He grew up in southern Illinois and graduated from Steeleville High School in Steeleville IL, where he began forming the lifelong friendships that would become a hallmark of his character. Marc built a career as a driver for Matheson Gases, where he worked with commitment and pride until retiring in 2021. Known for his reliability and strong work ethics, he earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike throughout his years on the road. In his personal life Marc found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He was married to Patricia (Rice) Ernsting for 22 years, sharing a bond rooted in loyalty and companionship.
He is also survived by his 90 yr old mother Maydell Ernsting; sisters Melissa Gilhooly, and Pat Sternberg (James) along with many nieces and nephews; all of whom will carry forward cherished memories of their time together. Marc was preceded in death by his father Howard Raymond Ernsting. Marc had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors whether swimming or grilling out with loved ones, he was a true sports fan, rarely missing a game or race on tv. He also had a real passion for decorating for Christmas, the more lights the Merrier! Music was another source of joy for him-he especially enjoyed listening to Tom Petty and Kansas. He was a man of Lutheran faith whose quiet strength and steadfast loyalty left lasting impressions on everyone he met. Marc had a gift for making friends for life-his sincerity and warmth drew people in and kept them close.
A memorial service to honor Marc's life will be held on Wednesday June 18th, 2025 at 1p.m. at the First Lutheran Church 1900 Highway 44 West Inverness, FL 34453.Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
