Obituary

Mrs. Louise Kathleen "Kitty" Reid, 97, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at Solaris HealthCare Lake City. Born in Lake City on September 21, 1928, Kitty was the youngest of five sisters raised on a family farm in Wellborn, FL. She returned to Lake City in her late teens and made it her home for the rest of her life.  Kitty worked for Bell Telephone and the Lake City Water Department before retiring from General Electric in Alachua, FL. She loved being outdoors and took great pride in caring for her yard. Sewing was her favorite pastime, and she found her greatest joy in time spent with her family. She met her late husband, James Alton Mikell, while he served as an officer with the Lake City Police Department.

A devoted Christian, Kitty was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church in Lake City. She faithfully read the Bible every year as an adult and lived her life with quiet strength and grace. She was the daughter of the late Pleamon H. Reid and Mamie Reid Boekhout and was preceded in death by her four sisters: Edith Storey, Ida Lee Johnson, Sarah McMahon, and Ruth McCall.

Kitty is survived by her two sons, Robin Mikell of Lake City and Joey (Elaine) Mikell of Lake Park, GA. She also leaves behind four grandchildren—Matthew Mikell (Anna) of Roswell, GA; Liz McKinney (Eric) of Melbourne, FL; Lindsay Mikell of Gainesville, FL; and Conner Mikell of Aspen, CO—and three great‑grandchildren: Aubrey Mikell, Eden McKinney, and Emory McKinney. She is also survived by a niece, Teddy Pruitt, and a nephew, Merrill Lynn, both of whom were especially close to her, along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor Mrs. Reid will be held on January 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Gateway‑Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, with Gordon Van Namee, pastor of Mt. Zion Church in Valdosta, GA, officiating. A private burial will follow in Olustee, FL. Visitation with the family will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkview Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
