Lonnie Michael "Mike" Cushman, 74 of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City.  He was born the middle child of three in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Lonnie Everett Cushman and Bessie Rae Law Cushman.  Mr. Cushman was raised in North Miami, Florida and was a graduate of Brooklyn Cayce High School in Columbia, SC, class of 1966.  He served four years in the United States Air Force and met and married his wife of almost 54 years, Erika, while stationed in Germany.  Mr. Cushman made his home in Lake City since 1980 and worked locally in the mobile home industry for many years.  For the past 30 years, Mike was well known and respected both locally and abroad as a dedicated breeder and trainer of Labrador Retrievers as well as his great passion for horses.  Mr. Cushman fought a valiant fight with heart disease since 1990 and through his Christian faith relied upon the comfort, strength and grace supplied by his Savior.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Erika Cushman, Lake City; his son, Tom Cushman (Wendy), Lake City; his daughter, Stephanie Norris (Eddie), Wilmington, NC; his brother, Steven V. Cushman (Sheila), Lexington, SC; his sister, Judith Hiller, Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Rachel Harris (Stephen), Fort White, Morgan Cushman, Lake City, Ava Norris, Wilmington, NC and Grant Norris, Wilmington, NC.

A celebration of life service to honor Mr. Cushman will be conducted on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center at 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
