Mr. Leonard "Darby" Peek 89, of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. He was born in Starke, Florida on October 20, 1925 to the late Sinclair L. Peek, Sr. and Mira Darby Peek. During World War II, Mr. Peek served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Wisconsin. After the war he graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in electric engineering. He worked for Florida Power and Light in Lake City for his entire career and retired as district manager. He enjoyed playing golf with the "Over the Hill Gang", fishing, listening to classical music and reading about the Civil War. He was preceded in death by his brother, S.L. "Jimmie" Peek, Jr.
Survivors include his sister, Frances Peek Ward, Lake City; his niece, Jane Ward Gault, St. Augustine; his nephew, George R. Ward and wife Joan, Lake City; his niece, Katharine Peek Long and husband Richard, Tallahassee; numerous nieces, nephews and his dear friends, Larry and Imogene Miller of Lake City.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at Crosby Lake Cemetery in Starke with Rev. Lynwood Walters officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Columbia County Public Library in memory of Mr. Peek at 308 NW Columbia Ave., Lake City, FL 32055 or to the charity of your choice.
