Ms. Leona Sarah King Moates, 79, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at her residence following an extended illness. She is the daughter of the late Raiford and Sarah Register King. Ms. Leona is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years James R. Moates, one grandson John Christopher Herndon, and one great-grandson Franklin James Moates. Ms. Leona was a lifelong resident of Lake City and was a lifetime member of Deep Creek Advent Christian Church she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ms. Leona is survived by two sons Donald Moates (Tracye) and Willie Moates (Chrissy) both of Lake City, FL; one daughter Penny Herndon (John) Lake City, FL one sister Christine Norris, Lake City, FL. eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Reverend Ron Moates officiating. Interment will follow in Scott Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening May 1, 2024, at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
