Lawrence "Larry" Cook, 74, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, March 19, 2025 at the HCA Florida- Lake City Hospital in Lake City after a brief illness. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on December 20, 1950 to the late Lawrence B. Cook Sr. and Minnie Burris Cook. He served his country faithfully for six years in the United States Navy and has made Lake City his home since 1987, moving here with his family from Chicago, Illinois. He owned and operated Cook's Quality Appliance Service for a number of years; as well as worked for AERO/TIMCO during that span as well before retiring in 2017. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with model airplanes and radio controlled airplanes; as well as watching old TV shows. He was a pilot and flew small airplanes in his younger years. He was also a talented musician, played the bass guitar, acoustic guitar, harmonica, Dobro, and even dabbled on the keyboard. He loved making music and listening to music. Above all, he was a devout Christian and loved the Lord with all his heart. He is preceded in death by his loving first wife, Gay B. Cook and his loving daughter, Lisa Cook White.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Visy Cook of Lake City; sons, Jesse, Ivan and John Cook all of Lake City; and his daughters, Rachel Shaheen (Nathan), Renee Saferite (Lee) and Elizabeth Shaheen (Joel) all of Lake City. Thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Cook will be conducted on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 4:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dale Tompkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 3:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
