Kathryn King Chasteen, 86, died on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice) after an extended illness. She was born December 2, 1924 to the late Dewitt T. & Amanda McMullen in Perry, Florida but had lived here in Lake City since 1943. Kathryn was an excellent cook and was world renowned for her banana pudding, which was always eaten first at family reunions. She loved traveling with her husband Hugh to visit their kids out West. Some of her favorite things were family, bird watching, growing flowers and loving the Lord. She will be terribly missed by family and friends, leaving an empty spot in our lives. She is preceded in death by her parents & by some members of her husband's family, which were as close as her own, C. David Chasteen and her brother, Randolph King; sisters, Iva Lee Cicero, Floy King & Mertis Evans.
Survivors include her loving husband, Hugh Chasteen of Lake City, FL; sons, Alan (Suzanne) Chasteen of Florence, AL & Donald (Jintana) Chasteen of Tampa, FL; daughters, Linda (Larry) Younger of Bonanza, OR & Peggy (Rual) Anderson of Melba, ID; brother and sisters in law, Wesley Evans, Vera Edith Chasteen Fowler(Luke), Kathryn Chasteen Steele, Charles Robert Chasteen, Shirley Chasteen, John (Glenda) Chasteen, Nancy Chasteen(George) Moore, and Wesley (Sue) Chasteen; 9 grandchildren, Laurie Younger, Jeffrey Younger, Jim Younger, Bruce Younger, Eric Younger, Carolyn Hassan, Christopher Chasteen, Andrew Anderson, Thomas Anderson and spouses; 20 great grandchildren & 7 great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Lake City Church of Christ with Pastor Ryan Tuten officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening, October 1, 2011, 5:00 p.m. A
