IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine "Kathy"
Brady Norris
February 24, 1936 – December 25, 2015
Mrs. Katherine "Kathy" Brady Norris, 79 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born February 24, 1936 in Miami, FL. Her parents moved back to Key West two years after she was born. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Edna Bearup Brady and was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eddie Norris, her son, William Randy Norris and one sister, Patty Broomall.
Survivors include her sister, Bea B. Bedingfield (Dan), Lake City; one brother, John H. Brady, Jr., Vero Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Christian, Timothy, Benjamin and Jennie Katherine Norris all of Wichita Falls, TX; nephews, Troy, Trent and Brady Bedingfield.
She was an active member of the First Advent Christian Church of Lake City, the Order of the Eastern Star, Amaranth, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Seminole boosters, Seniors United, Heritage Club and the Enrichment Center. She enjoyed bowling and was on a league for 30 years. Kathy enjoyed traveling with her younger sister Bea as her traveling partner.
She graduated from Key West High School in June of 1953 and then attended Florida State University from May of 1953 to August of 1954. While working in the cafeteria at FSU she met Eddie who later became her husband on September 4, 1956. She was unable to complete her education but did get her "MRS" degree. She remained an avid Seminole fan. She worked at Westert Union until she married and moved to Lake City. Her first job in Lake City was with Sears from 1956 until 1961 when their son was born. She then went to work for Suburban Propane Gas in 1962 until 1968 and then went to work with the City of Lake City Natural Gas Department. She retired from the City of Lake City in February of 2001 after 33 years of service. She loved to work and tried to enjoy every day of life.
Her biggest desire was for their son Randy to graduate from college. Randy graduated from Forest Hills Academy in 1979, Lake City Community College in May 1980, University of Florida in May 1984, University of Southern Mississippi in May 1986. He then went on to earn his doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi in December 1989. He married in August of 1989 and moved to Texas until his death at 47 years of age in April of 2008.
For many years she baked friendship and pound cakes for friends and neighbors birthdays. She enjoyed giving fellow employees a small birthday party at the office, which they always looked forward to. Another pastime of 40 years was baking Christmas cookies to give to neighbors and friends. One of the saddest memories was the death of their only child Randy, at the age of 47, and not being able to enjoy their grandchildren, as they lived in Texas. After her husband's death in April 2012, she stayed active in church and senior activities.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev.
