IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jonathan Lee
“Jon” Powell
March 2, 1971 – August 6, 2020
Jonathan Lee "Jon" Powell, 49, of Lake City, passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2020. Jon was born in OKay, Oklahoma on March 2, 1971, But spent his growing up years with his Papa Frankie and his loving Grandma Shirley (a/k/a 2nd Mama), in Lake Butler, Florida. Jon later moved to Lake City where he met and married the love of his life, April ( Greene) Powell. They went on to raise three beautiful children - Hannah, Branden, and Zachary.
Jon was a very devoted family man. He adored his wife and children. He worked very hard to provide for their needs and always made sure they had some of their "wants" as well. Jon worked numerous jobs over the years but when he landed the position as tow truck driver with Bryant's Towing, he knew he had discovered his passion. His incredible work ethic and attention to detail made him loved and respected by not only his employers and coworkers, but also by those "stranded and stressed out" motorists in need of a ride. His gentle demeanor and warm smile assured weary passengers that everything was going to be okay.
After years of resisting – Jon gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Even though it took him some time to surrender to God, once he did, he was all in! Jon was a changed man from that day forward. His faith was genuine and sincere. He wasn't pushy or judgmental – and that's what made him a powerful witness for Christ. Jon was a quiet guy; that is, until the Florida Gators were playing! He was an avid Gator fan! Win, lose or draw! He bled orange and blue!
One of Jon's greatest joys in the last days of his life here on earth was his beautiful granddaughter, Kimber. That baby melted her Papa's heart. Jon leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and the importance of working hard and doing a job well. Words cannot adequately express how much Jon will be missed. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dot Harrington.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, April Powell of Lake City; sons, Branden Powell and Zachary Powell; daughter, Hannah Shelbo (Nick); grandchild, Kimber Shelbo; grandmother (2nd mama), Shirley Nelson; brothers, Jason Powell (Sheila) And Nathan Powell; and father Jerry Powell (Barbara) also survive.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00pm, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, with a "Celebration of Life" services immediately following at the Christian Heritage Church, 159 SW Hudson Lane, Lake City, FL, 32025. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
