John Edwin Shaddinger, 86, of Lake City,Fl., passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, January 15, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Plumsteadville, Pennsylvania on April 13, 1931 to the late Edwin and Anna Marie Calley Shaddinger. He has made Lake City his home since 2006, moving here from the South Florida area. He was a master carpenter, and built furniture and dressers for all his grandchildren; he was also a member of Hopeful Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his shop; was a past Post Commander of the American Legion #210 in Doyelstown, PA, a Volunteer Firefighter in Plumsteadville, PA and a Past Scout Master in Pennsylvania and Lake City. He was also a Deacon at the 1st Baptist Church of West Hollywood, Florida for several years and a US Navy veteran. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years; Hazel G. Shaddinger; and two sisters; Pauline Bouc and Arlene Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 6 ½ years; Ruth Stacy Shaddinger of Lake City; son; Joe Shaddinger (Linda) of Matthews, NC; daughters; Linda Durkin (Thom) of Lake City and Mary Glover (Rick) of Kokomo, IN; step-daughter; Michele Amsdill (Bruce) of Dania Beach, FL. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Shaddinger will be conducted on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Hopeful Baptist Church, 209 S.E. Hopeful Drive, Lake City, FL, 32025 with Pastor Mark Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Friday evening, January 19, 2018 at the funeral home.
