John Edward Rasmussen, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 22, 2013.
He was the son of Molly and John Rasmussen of Bergen, Norway. He was born on May 15, 1921 in Chiapas, Mexico where his father was serving as overseer of a coffee plantation. There he lived until he was 12 with his parents and 3 sisters, Molly, Ragna and Astrid and his brother Norman. After his father's death, he traveled to Zephyrhills, FL with his older brother to live with family that had come to America. John became an American citizen as soon as possible and proudly served in the US Air Force as a telegraph operator. The rest of his career, he worked for the Seaboard Railroad as a car distributor. In 1944, he met the beautiful, blue-eyed blonde, Jeanette Weeks. They were married and celebrated 68 years together as husband and wife. They enjoyed over 20 years of retirement together in Leesburg, FL. John moved to Lake City, FL 1 year ago to be closer to his family after Jeanette's passing.
They are survived by their daughter, Jenny Rasmussen Anderson (George), two grand children, Camilla Anderson Donnelly and Adam Anderson and two adored great-grand children, Dixie & Belle Donnelly.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, Fl. with Rev. Paul Fowler officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday, July 26, 2013 at the funeral home.
