John Benny Holt, a man whose life was marked by unwavering integrity, deep family devotion, and a spirited sense of humor, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake City, Florida, on April 2, 2026. Born in Miami, Florida, on October 26, 1954, John lived a full and meaningful life that touched all those who had the privilege to know him.
John’s professional journey reflected his commitment and dedication. He first devoted nine years to Aero Corp, where his work ethic shone brightly. Following this chapter, he served with distinction for 21 years at the Florida Department of Transportation, contributing to the well-being and safety of the community, a testament to his steadfast sense of responsibility and service.
Beyond his career, John was known for the laughter he brought into the lives of others. He loved to joke and kid around, often picking on friends and family in a way that uniquely expressed his affection. Those playful jests were unmistakable signs of his fondness, and they created cherished memories filled with warmth and good-natured fun. His honesty and moral compass were pillars of his character; when John gave his word, it was as strong as any contract, and a handshake from him was the seal of true trust. His faith remained a guiding light, and his strong relationship with God was a profound source of strength throughout his life.
A true sportsman at heart, John took great joy in hunting and fishing. He found peace and fulfillment in the outdoors, proudly caring for his property and embracing the beauty of nature. These hobbies were more than pastimes; they were reflections of his deep appreciation for life’s simple and enduring pleasures. He loved to take his family on trips to the Great Smoky Mountains. He looked forward to it all year long.
Above all, John’s proudest accomplishment was his family. Surrounded by loved ones as he passed, his legacy of love and commitment lives on vibrantly through them. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Jenelle Holt; his son John Paul Holt and daughter-in-law Monica Holt; his daughter Mary Thompson and son-in-law Luke Thompson; and his daughter Heather Milton and son-in-law Carlton Milton. The joy of his grandchildren—Jennifer Holt, John Paul Holt Jr., Jacob Holt, Anna Thompson, Emily Thompson, Kenzi Milton, and Wesley Milton—continues to honor his memory.
John also leaves behind his cherished siblings: his sister Charlotte Bush, his brother Bill Holt, and his sister-in-law Carolyn Holt. They, along with countless friends and family, mourn the loss of a genuinely remarkable man whose spirit and values remain an enduring beacon.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Paul and Mary Holt; his brothers Bruce Holt and Claude Holt; his sister Betty Finnegan; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Holt, along with brother-in-law Roy Bush. Their memories live on in the stories and hearts of all who knew John.
John Benny Holt’s life was a testament to loyalty, love, and laughter. His honest heart, his strong faith, and the sparkle in his eyes when he was teasing a friend will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. The world is a better place for having known him, and his family finds comfort in the lasting imprint of his love and kindness. May he rest peacefully.
