Elvin Spencer "John" Colson, 87 of Lake City, passed away at his home on Friday, November 4, 2022 due to recent heart issues and cancer.  He was a lifelong resident of Lake City and only son to the late Spencer Elvin Colson and Myra Kinard Colson.  Mr. Colson worked and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer.  He continued his work with Donald Lee and Associates and by also serving as the county engineer for Columbia County. Years ago, Mr. Colson enjoyed playing cards at the Elks Lodge and the Lake City Country Club.  He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and being outdoors.  Mr. Colson was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 61 years, Ruby Vining Colson, in 2019.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelli K. Colson, Lake City; three sisters, Rachel Duren, Jacksonville, Opal Blackshear, Ft. Monroe, VA and Kay Culpepper (Ed), Griffin, GA; brothers-in-law, Frank Vining, Lake City and James Vining (Jean), Tampa; sister-in-law, Lucille Coats, Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Colson will be conducted on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Bethel Methodist Cemetery.  Interment will follow.  A time of visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the funeral home.  The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to, special caregiver and niece, Sharon Coats; caregivers, Marcia, Paula, Dion, Susana, Charlene, Bennie, Wendy, Star and Macie; and close friends, Dean and Pam Taylor, and the staff at Haven Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in memory of Mr. Colson.
