Mr. Jerry T. Wood, 78, of Lake City died at the V.A. Medical Center on Thursday, February 5, 2015 following a lengthy illness. A native of St. Stephens, AL, Jerry was the son of the late John E. and Marie Turner Wood. Jerry attended and graduated from Columbia High School class of 1956, and was a scholar athlete in football, baseball, and basketball. He owned Wood Construction Company building many homes and commercial buildings in Lake City for many years and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his buddies at "The Barn" on his property in Deep Creek. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Wood.
Jerry is survived by his son, John Wood of Lake City; daughter, Jackie Wood Hand (Kendall) of Lake City; grandchildren, Courtney, Bethany, and Adam Wood, and Royce and Emmitt Hand all of Lake City; and a large group of hunting and fishing buddies.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Wood will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow. Visitation with the family will be held one hour before service time 12:00-1:00 Tuesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
