Jean Rapp McCaleb, 97, passed away on Friday morning, May 20, 2022 at the Haven Hospice of Orange Park in Orange Park, Florida. She was born on April 26, 1925, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to Peter and Edna Rapp. She grew up in Beaver, Ohio, and moved to Columbus after graduation to work for an insurance company. After the war in 1946, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Rasselle Lee McCaleb. She owned and operated a beauty parlor in Columbus while her husband attended Ohio State University. They moved to Lake City, Florida, in 1954, after his graduation from the Ohio Dental School and an Internship at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL.
She worked for the Social Security Administration for 20 years where she served many members of her community and made some wonderful friends. During retirement, she traveled with her husband in their motor home throughout the US and Canada, frequently accompanied by their good friends, Linwood & Myrtice Colson, Hal & Emma Lou Worth, and Harvey & Mary Frances DeVane. She loved gardening and flowers and helping her friends and neighbors. She volunteered for many years at the First United Methodist Church, the VA Hospital, Lake City Medical Center and the Library.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rasselle Lee McCaleb and her sister, Charlene Robinson.
She is survived by her children, Pamela McCaleb (Jimmy Moore) and Scott McCaleb (Janet); granddaughter, Kelly McCaleb Wesley (David); great-granddaughter, Halsey Wesley; sister, Judy Pendell and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. McCaleb will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
