Janet Hoover Schmucker, age 73, passed away peacefully April 10, 2016 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida.  She was the loved daughter of the late Eugene W. Hoover and Wilma Chauncey Hoover of Fairfax, Va.  She is survived by her sister, Joyce Hoover Ogden (William) and her brother, Jay Chauncey Hoover (Yun Cha).  She loved visiting with her six nieces and nephews; Annette Ogden Recavarren (Edward), Anita Ogden Edwards (David), Amanda Ogden McLean (Matthew), Regina Hoover Ibarra (Vincent), Michael Chae Hoover, David Chong Hoover (Andreea) and eleven great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Robert Louis Schmucker.

She was raised in Fairfax, Virginia, and educated at Carson Newman University.  She loved music and taught herself to play the piano in her early teens.

She and her husband were members and worked in the children's program at the Sheridan Baptist Church in Miami for many years.  They were Park Ranger and caretakers of the Barnacle in Coconut Grove, a state park and former homestead of Commodore Ralph Munroe.  There she developed a love of working with wood that continued throughout her life.  Janet taught court recording at the Charron-Williams College, Miami, Florida, and later worked for the Census Bureau.

She will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and generous caring nature.  She always found time to help her friends and became a caretaker of family and neighbors in need.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:00 am at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to the First United Methodist Church or the Columbia County Christian Service Center.
