Jane O. Shirey, 79, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024 at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 19, 1945 to the late Arthur Otto Staeben and Elatha Parks. She has made Florida her home most of her life and worked for over 40 years in the optical field, retiring as an Optician. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, sewing and quilting. She was apart of the local Lady of the Lake quilting guild and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church here in Lake City. During her life, she fostered over 500 cats for a Siamese Cat Rescue, and was just an animal lover in general. When she committed to doing something, she was always "all in". She is preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Staeben.

She is survived by her loving husband and caregiver of over 35 years, Richard Shirey; son, Quincy Oliver; daughters, Kristen Payment (Troy), Karen Medlin (Jeff) and Teresa Rider (Buck); step-son, John Shirey (Stacey); and step daughter, Jennifer Fennell. Six grandchildren, Brenna Musleh (Jay), Allyson Lebrun (Austin), Parker Medlin, Sean Rider (Liliana), Carson Payment and Jaydon Payment (Grace); along with four great-grandchildren also survive.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2024 where she will be laid to rest with her mother and father. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Columbia County Senior Center or to Haven Hospice. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
