James N. Thompson, 92 of Lake City, passed away on January 29, 2025.  He was born on December 24, 1932 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Alvin N. Thompson and Lois Thompson, the fourth of five children.  Mr. Thompson served the United States Navy for a time and then worked for JEA until he retired.  Following his retirement from JEA, he worked for Baptist Hospital and retired from there and he and his loving wife Estelle kept many children in their home.  He was a faithful member of various churches over the years including North Jacksonville Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, First Baptist Church in Middleburg, Hopeful Baptist Church, Westside Baptist Church, Countryside Baptist Church and Christ Central after moving to Lake City.  Mr. Thompson was ministered to by Chad Rogers, who was his pastor before he passed away.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 ½ years, Estelle Thompson; his parents, Newt and Lois Thompson; his sisters, Mary Crabill, Billie Milner and JoAnn Bazzell.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Keith Dachs; his grandchildren, Cristy (Kevin) Slover, Anthony Margadonna and Hannah Dachs; and his great-grandson, Cecil "CJ" Slover; and his brother Tom "Sonny" Thompson.

A memorial service honoring Mr. Thompson's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM at WellSpring Church, 1037 US Hwy 90 West in Lake City with Pastor Chad Rogers officiating.  Interment will follow at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
