September 13, 1944 – December 20, 2023
James (Jim) R Chambers of Lake City, FL. passed away on Wednesday December 20th after a short illness, at the North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Florida surrounded by family members. He was born September 13, 1944 in Emlenton, PA, and was a graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School, class of 1962. He served in the United States Air Force for four years following graduation from high school and was stationed in Texas and Alaska during the Vietnam era. After a career in the hardware business, he retired from ACE Hardware in 2007.
Mr. Chambers was a lifelong Corvette enthusiast having owned numerous "Vettes" as well as attending many car shows with Virginia. Jim loved reading American Adventure novels as well as solving picture puzzles and then framing them in his wood shop. One of Jim's proud accomplishments was achieving a Private Pilot's License and flying for over four decades. He was a Life Member of the "Commemorative Air Force". Cruising and traveling was another love he and Virginia enjoyed after his retirement, having adventured to numerous destinations. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Goldie Chambers, his daughter Laurie Rankin and son Doug Chambers, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia L (Raybuck) Chambers, of 51 years who he married October 21st, 1972 He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in laws, James and Donna Clark, and Larry and Cheryl Raybuck, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and friends who will cherish his memory and his contagious smile.
