Obituary

James M. "Jim" Sapp, 82 of Lake City, passed away at his home on Friday, June 20, 2025.  Mr. Sapp was born on September 8, 1942 in Miami, Florida to the late Mitchell and Anna Titman Sapp.  He resided in Sweetwater, Florida for many years prior to moving to Wellborn.  Mr. Sapp was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the National Security Agency for eight years with deployments in both France and Japan.  Following his military service, Mr. Sapp returned to the Lake City area where he eventually went to work with the Florida Department of Agriculture Forest Service in Lake City, retiring in 1996.  After raising his girls for several years, Jim met his wife, Barbara, to complete their family.

He was a member of the American Legion for many years and Christ Central in Lake City.  Mr. Sapp enjoyed time at the beach, traveling, collecting movies and in his younger years, deep sea fishing, racquetball and Gator football.  His greatest times were spent with his family and being able to take care of his grandchildren till they reached school age.  Mr. Sapp was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Patricia Johnson, Carol Estevez, Bonnie Norwood, Bea Sapp and Christina Hall; and one brother, Wayne Sapp.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Luck Sapp, Lake City; his two daughters and son-in-laws, Laura and Brian Caley, Lake City and Shannon and Alan Dean, Gainesville; two grandsons and wives, Justin and Melody Dean, Jacksonville and Brason and Kaylan Caley, Glen St. Mary; his granddaughter, Jordan Dean, Gainesville; one brother, Gordon and Kathy Sapp, Sarasota; sister-in-law, Judy Sapp, Lake City; caretaker, Stephanie Wooten, Bell; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Sapp will be conducted on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Lonnie Johns officiating and military honors.  A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055, in memory of Mr. Sapp.
