Mr. James McHue "Mac" Koon, 88 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.  He was the youngest of 10 children to the late Perry and Ann Koon.  Mr. Koon was born and raised in Perry, Florida and had been a resident of Lake City for the past 70 years.  He was of the Baptist faith and had attended several churches thru the years.  Mr. Koon ran Bodiford's Grocery on North Marion Street for 20 years and was an accomplished carpenter.  He enjoyed using his carpentry skills building furniture.  Mr. Koon was preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Betty Bodiford Koon, Lake City; his son, Mikel W. Koon (Denise), Gainesville; his daughter, Julia A. Keene (Henry), Gainesville; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Koon will be conducted on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Dr. Gregory Magruder officiating.  Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Athens Baptist Church in Lake City in memory of Mr. Koon.  A live stream of the services will be available by visiting Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Facebook.
