James “Mack” Lipscomb, 86, of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the HCA Florida – Lake City Hospital after a sudden illness. He was born on April 2, 1939 in Hokes Bluff, Alabama to the late James William “Jim” Lipscomb and Mary Reed Lipscomb. He was a 1957 graduate of Hokes Bluff High in Alabama; and he has made Lake City his home since 2005, moving here from Alabama. He was a Building Contractor for over 40 years and was a business partner of Lipscomb & Eagle Development, Inc., with his longtime friend Tom Eagle. In his former years, Mack enjoyed Square Dancing as well as Square Dance Calling, which is where he met his wife, Linda. In his later years he spent his spare time, working in his yard, and playing word games. He loved an ice-cold Dr. Pepper and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters; and his daughters, Debbie and Kim Lipscomb.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Linda Lipscomb of Lake City; sons; Jimmy Lipscomb (Nancy) of West Palm Beach, Michael “Mike” Lipscomb (Norma) of Orlando, Johnny Mack Lipscomb (Jen) of Maryland, Kevin Lipscomb (Lauren) of Lake City and Jesse Lipscomb (Stacie) of Alabama; daughters, Christine Dowlin of Tennessee, Jodie Fowler of Delray Beach, and Michelle Dobson (Ricky) of Lake City. One brother, Gene Lipscomb of Alabama along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, close family and friends also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Lipscomb will be conducted on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Tom Tyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
