IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Dewey
King
May 31, 1943 – December 11, 2025
James Dewey King, 82, of Lake City, FL, passed away peacefully December 11th, 2025 at his home under VITAS Healthcare with his daughters and youngest sisters by his side . He was born in Lake City, FL on May 31, 1943 the second of five children to the late Dewey and Marie Crews King. James was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1962.
James was a man of many talents. He developed an interest in horseback riding at an early age and participated in horse shows in Florida and Georgia, which led to being employed at Bullard's Western Store where he made horse saddles. He eventually became a skilled and dedicated general contractor. James spent his life building not only homes and structures, but a reputation of hard work and craftsmanship. No matter the challenge, James always found a way to "overcome" what life put in front of him, facing obstacles with determination, resilience, and quiet strength. He was also an avid offshore fisherman who found joy and freedom on the water. Fishing brought him happiness and lifelong memories with friends and family. James was an outstanding cook and loved preparing meals for others, and the food he made was another way he showed his love. He had a deep love for plants, flowers and vegetables, finding peace and satisfaction in watching things grow under his care. In his latter years, some of his happiest moments were spent on his tractor, working the land he loved and enjoying the simple rural life. Above all else, James loved his family. He was proud of his daughters and was a beamingly proud and loving "Pop" who especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy and his presence, amazing food and love will be deeply missed.
