Mr. James Randolph Gilbert, 76 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his home following a brief illness. He was a son to the late George Elvoy and Nadine Church Gilbert and a lifelong resident of Columbia County. Mr. Gilbert was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1957 and a Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Gilbert had previously worked for Cotton Johnson Motors, Gilbert's Garage, AAA Construction and most recently Lake City Industries. He was of the Baptist faith and longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he enjoyed playing the guitar. His hobbies were hunting, reloading ammunition and spending time in what he called his "Hobby House". Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Gilbert, Joe Gilbert and Lawrence Gilbert and one sister, June Marie Gilbert.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda M. Mobley, Lake City; two grandsons, David Mobley, Lake City and Patrick Mobley, Dallas, TX; two great grandchildren, Jaiden Mobley and Mason Nicholson both of Lake City; one sister in law, Jewell Paul, Fitzgerald, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Norman, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30-11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the church.
