James Thomas Brown, Jr., 79, of Lake City, passed away on Friday morning, October 14, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina on November 30, 1942, to the late James Thomas Brown, Sr. and, Beatrice Virginia Monroe Brown. He has made Lake City his home since the mid-1980s, previously living in Gainesville and Archer, FL since the mid-1960s. He worked for 38-plus years with Florida Department of Transportation as an Engineer, retiring in 2003. He was of the Baptist faith, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Archer In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting; and sports especially the University of Florida teams; later years, enjoyed his animals, farming, working with his hands building things, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Joye Brown of Lake City; sons, James T. Brown, III (Shawna) of Utah, Joseph H. Brown of Rochelle, FL, and Jefferson M. Brown (Shannon) of Lake City; brother, Michael E. Brown (Sandy) of Alachua; and his sister, Cheryl A. Brown Ponds (Larry) of Weirsdale, FL. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
A Graveside Funeral Service for Mr. Brown will be conducted on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. in the Forest Grove Cemetery 8200 NW 226th Street Alachua, FL with Pastor Hugh Sherrill officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon prior to the service.
