Jackie Wayne Holmes October 22, 1948, to December 29, 2025
Jackie Wayne Holmes, a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, athlete, public servant, and friend, passed away on December 29, 2025, in Lake City, Florida. Born on October 22, 1948, in Sturgis, Kentucky, Jackie lived a life defined by family, discipline, devotion, humility, and love.
At the age of 12, Jackie moved with his family to Miami, Florida, where his extraordinary athletic gifts quickly became evident. While attending Norland High School, he distinguished himself as a standout varsity football and baseball player, earning the nickname "The Rifleman." His performance on the field was nothing short of legendary, as he set numerous records that endured for more than two decades. Jackie was recognized as All-American in both football and baseball and named Miami Dade County Athlete of the year, a rare and exceptional achievement. His athletic journey continued as he played Minor League Baseball for the New York Mets organization.
Jackie's commitment to service was as strong as his athletic prowess. He proudly served for six years in the Army National Guard. He later became a police officer with the Hialeah Police Department, where he served for several years, many of them as a respected motorcycle officer. Thereafter, he served as a Special Agent for CSX Transportation, continuing his distinguished career in law enforcement until he transitioned into management as a Trainmaster.
In 1971, Jackie met the love of his life, the voluptuous minx, Dianne. They married in 1972 and shared an extraordinary 54 years of marriage, years filled with loyalty, partnership, laughter, and unconditional love. Together, they raised two spicy daughters, Heather and Hillary, whom Jackie adored and often described with pride as successful, stubborn, and sassy. His greatest joy in later years was being "Pa-paw" to his beloved grandchildren, McKenzie and Jackson.
Physically imposing yet deeply gentle, Jackie was a man of intelligence, integrity, and quiet humility. He possessed unwavering strength, a sharp wit, and a great sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him. His passions included playing the drums, snuggling with his pets, practicing martial arts, singing Elvis songs with enthusiasm, and most of all spending time playing and laughing with his grandchildren and attending their athletic events.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elnora Holmes. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne, his sisters, Joanne and Connie, his daughters, Heather and Hillary, his sons-in-law, Chris and Scott, and his cherished grandchildren, McKenzie and Jackson.
No formal services will be held, but a celebration of Jackie's life will be planned for a future date. His legacy of strength, love, service, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
