Igdalia Dominica Oteiza, 94, of LakeCity, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Solaris HealthCare Lake City. She was born in Havana, Cuba to the late Antonio Perera and Isabel de Armas. Mrs. Oteiza had resided in Lake City for the past 53 years, having previously lived in Thomasville, GA, Valdosta, GA, Chestertown, MD, Wilmington, DE, Atchison, KS and St. Joseph, MO. She held a loyal and deep faith in God, was of the Roman Catholic faith, and a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City.
A nationalized American citizen, "Lala" was a devoted Patriot, who loved the United States, Liberty, and Freedom. Mrs. Oteiza was very proud of her native country of Cuba, as it was before being destroyed by Communism in 1959. She was a passionate advocate of Justice and a fierce defender of Education to the maximum level for both boys and girls, but especially for girls and women. She held great admiration for hard work, moral standards, and ethical behavior. Mrs. Oteiza had a vibrant personality, sharp sense of humor, and loved laughing and making others laugh.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Esther Oteiza and Gary Lawrence, and Dr. Elizabeth Oteiza-Steinberg and Dr. Seth Steinberg; her sister, Mirta Perera; brother and sister-in-law, Francisco Sabin and Lucila Sabin; three grandchildren, Dr. Lauren Steinberg, Dr. Andrew Steinberg, and Allyson Steinberg; two great-grandchildren, Jay Mehler and Colt Mehler; niece, Mayra de Soto Perera; and nephew, Dr. Miguel Angel de Soto Perera.
A Memorial Holy Mass honoring the life of Mrs. Oteiza will be celebrated on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Epiphany Catholic Church, Lake City.
