MASINGIL, HOMER

Homer Masingil, 74, of High Springs, FL, died peacefully at home on November 12, 2010, with his wife at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Artemus, KY, and was the son of the late Lunis and Hallie Hitshire Masingil. After graduating from Knox County School System, he served in the US Navy and graduated from US Naval School as Class A Engineman and served as Engineman on USS Windham County during the Korean War. After his military service he graduated from Union College in Barbourville, KY. After teaching school in Knox County School system, he worked with the FL Farm Bureau, Santa Fe Community College and retired from the Lake City Community College in 2002 as Vice President of Business Services. He and his wife had traveled, restored old cars, and he had done woodworking for past 8 years and truly enjoyed retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Belcher, High Springs, FL; two sons: Bruce Masingil (Lori), Gainesville, FL and Mark Masingil (Tanya Thorsen), Plano, TX; one brother: James Masingil, Wheeler, MI; one sister: Helen Moore, Madison Heights, MI; four grandchildren: Scott, Shane and Sarah Masingil, Gainesville, FL and Morgan Masingil of Mansfield, TX. Several aunts, great-nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive along with his special friend, Maxine Black of Monroe City, IN.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 10 A.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Edenfield officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 15, 2010, from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery in Artemus, KY. GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
