Colonel Guy D. Luke, U.S. Air Force Retired, 78, of Lake City died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. A native of Henderson, TX, Colonel Luke was the son of the late Guy W. and Lucille Pendery Luke, and graduated from the University of Florida and earned his Masters Degree from George Washington University. His military career spanned 26 years serving many different areas in the United States as a pilot, and was the Base Commander of Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA when he retired. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, was the Chairman of the Keeper of the Flame, and served on the finance committee, a member of the Rotary Club of Lake City, and an avid Gator fan.
Colonel Luke is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hilda Luke of Lake City; daughters, Kathy W. Calvert (Keith), and Carol L. Hammar, both of Allen, TX; grandsons, Jason L. Ekberg of China, Aaron D. Shropshire of Plano, TX, and Austin L. Hammar (Shannon) of Allen, TX.
Funeral services for Colonel Luke will conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Lake City with Reverend Jeff Tate officiating. Private interment services with full Military Honors will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 973 S. Marion Ave., Lake City, FL 32025 or Haven Hospice-Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 W.
