Gordon Keith Perry

"Super Gordy"

06/01/1961 – 02/27/2022

Gordon Perry passed away Sunday February 27th after an extended illness.  He was born in Lake City, FL on June 01, 1961, to Fred C. Perry and Mary Lou Perry.  He graduated from Columbia High School in 1979 and enlisted in the Army National Guard after graduation, in which he served until 1986.

Gordon was a carpenter and builder by trade and many of his creations can be seen in and around Lake City, including tables in locally owned restaurants, tile work in local medical offices, and more homes than can be counted.  When Gordon and his daughter, Jessica, would ride around Lake City together, he would point out homes he helped build and reminisce about the memories of building homes with his father, Fred, and his brothers under Fred Perry and Sons Construction.

He had an eye of precision, and skillful hands and could build and fix anything, which earned him the nickname "Super Gordy" amongst family and friends.  Years ago, he would often demonstrate his uncanny ability to cut a piece of wood to precision without using a tape measure – the cut was done by sight and skill alone.  This skill transferred to shooting pool.  He was a pool shark and could shoot pool with his left hand (he was right-handed), while using a broken pool cue, and would still run the table as soon as it was his turn to shoot.  He was a die-hard Florida Gators fan and when the Gators would score, he would shout "OH MY!", just like Mick Hubert.

Gordon spent a lot of time with his daughter, Jessica, when she was a little girl and taught her many life lessons, the first being that God was our creator, and above all, to always love and put Him first.  In the afternoons after school, he would be in the yard teaching Jessica how to throw, kick, and punt a football, how to plant a garden, how to drive a tractor, and how to use a lawn mower, and how to make gravy from bacon drippings, corn meal, and milk.  In the mornings on Saturday and Sunday, they would sit in their rocking chairs on the front porch and drink black coffee together.  Some of these lessons were also taught to nieces and nephews because he loved children so much, wanted to be involved, and to be helpful wherever he could.

Super Gordy leaves behind his daughter, Jessica Markham (Chase), Granddaughters Kenleigh and Tara Markham, his mother, Mary Lou Perry, brothers Fredrick Perry (Jennifer), Gus Perry (Cindy), Jonathan Perry (Danielle), Michael Perry (Lynda), and sisters Sandi Williams (Donnie), Terry Perry, and Amy Illing (Lance), along with many dearly loved nieces and nephews.  With big family comes big love, and he loved his family dearly, and was proud of come from a big, wonderful family.  He also leaves behind great friends, Mitch and Mario.
