Glenn Ivon Jones Sr. 1-5-1928 to 4-25-2024 Glenn Ivon Jones Jr, 96, died at home surrounded by family Thursday, April 25, 2024, after a brief illness.

Glenn was born and raised in Lake City, FL by Samuel L. and Louis Markham Jones. He went to school at Mason City before transferring to Columbia High where he graduated in 1945. There he played football and basketball. After graduating he went into the Navy for 2 years.

He then went on to attend the University of Florida, graduating in 1950 with a business degree. It is in Gainesville where he met his future bride Doris Register at a Pike House party. After graduation, he accepted a job at R J Reynolds Tobacco Company in North Carolina. Shortly after that, he was recalled into the Navy for the Korean War. He and Doris drove to Georgia where they eloped and then spent almost 2 years honeymooning while

stationed at Pearl Harbor. He and Doris were together for 71 years. After being discharged he went to work for the International Harvester Company for the next 15 years. In 1967 he returned to Lake City and purchased the O B Bradley Oil Company. In the early 1970's Glenn I Jones Inc. added air conditioning and heating. Glenn retired in 2000. Glenn was a past president of the Lake City Kiwanis Club and former Chamber of Commerce director. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. He was an avid Gator fan and loved the family cabin on the Santa Fe River.

Precedents in death include his parents, wife Doris, and daughter Jodi Jones Knauf. He is survived by his son Glenn I Jones Jr. (Christina), daughter Julie Jones, son-in-law Bert Knauf, and grandchildren Branden Jones, Cory Jones, Darin Jones (Courtney), and Rachel Knauf. The family will have a private service at a later date.
