Ms. Gertrude "Trudy" Smith Libby died on April 26, 2023. She was born in Jonesport, Maine on June 24, 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years; Chester Bradford Libby, a granddaughter, Brenda Mae Blue; and two sons-in-law James Hollingsworth and Jerry Wayne Bryant. Her husband served thirty years in the United States Air Force. She, her husband, and their children lived in Bermuda, England, France, and the Philippines. She and her husband moved to Lake City, Florida in 1974. Trudy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School class; a past regent of the Edward Rutledge Chapter NSDAR and was a member for over forty years. She was a Shands Lake Shore Hospital Auxiliary member for thirty-one years.
She is survived by her daughters; Sherrianne Bryant and Barbara Hollingsworth; two sons Darrell (Angela) Libby, Bruce (Shelia) Libby; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be interned with her husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida, with graveside services at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Haven Hospice, 6037 West US Highway 90, Lake City, FL 32055. A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at her home at 229 NW Lake Valley Terrace, Lake City, Florida 32055.
