Mrs. Geraldine "Jerrie" Melton Fields, 86, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City.  She was born May 21, 1930 in Lake City to the late Henry and Georgia Christie Melton and was a long time resident of Lake City.  She was the wife of the late legendary Coach Joe B. Fields of the LCJC Timberwolves.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sports fan.  She was a graduate of CHS and a past Lake City tobacco queen.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years in 2001 and two sisters, Doris Carroll and Shirley Giebeig.

Survivors include her children, Eddie Bennett (Kathy) of Lake City, Suzanne Fields-Howell (Jerry) of Lake City and Joe Fields (Patty) of Palm Bay; five grandchildren, Jeb Bennett of Palm Bay, Troy Bennett of Winter Springs, Faith Fields of Lake City, Christopher and Andrew Fields both of Palm Bay; five great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, Gracie, Nathan, Katie, and Keegan Bennett, and Gavin Fields.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Mike Wright officiating.  Interment will follow.  Visitation with the family will be Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
