Lake City Reporter Obituary Notice

Mr. George Wilbur Stuart, Sr., passed away at home peacefully on October 28, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with dementia.  He was surrounded by his loving family and relatives.  Mr. Stuart was a lifelong resident of Columbia County.  He was a World War II Veteran having served on the front lines in the Battle of the Bulge.  After returning home from the war, he married Faye Wilson and together they raised three children.  Mr. Stuart was a devoted and loving husband, Daddy, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Mr. Stuart was formerly employed with Central Truck Lines for ten years.  Later on he became owner and operator of Stuart's Auto Parts for thirty seven years.  Mr. Stuart was a friend to many and always had a compassionate heart to help others in need.  Mr. Stuart had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was of the Baptist faith.  He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, Bob and Abbie Tompkins Stuart, brothers, Coy Stuart and D. L. Stuart, in laws, Sidney and Irene Wilson and son-in-law, Scott Holley.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Faye Stuart; son, George Stuart, Jr.; daughters, Twylia Holley and Charity Stuart; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Stuart, Ursula Stuart and Rachel Edwards; brother, Mirl (Tina) Stuart; granddaughters, Ashlea Stuart and Lindsey Thomas; one great-grandson, Blaine Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the following for their love, kindness and compassion in caring for Mr. Stuart in his final days.  Marie Stuart, his Haven Hospice nurses, Kathy Spears, Fran and caregiver Amy.  Also, a very special thanks to Johnny Bullard, who will preside over the service and also as soloist, and Amanda Bullard as pianist.

Funeral services for Mr. Stuart will be conducted on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Mr. Johnny Bullard officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
