George David Shackelford, 79, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice). George was born in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee to the late Chester and Della [Cloninger] Shackelford and has lived here in Lake City since 2007. He faithfully served his country with the United States Army and afterwards he retired from the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department after 18 years of service. He loved working though and worked Metal Lathe & Drywall construction, during his days off. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and target shooting. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sons, George David Shackelford III of Davie, FL and Daniel (Judy) Shackelford of Lake City, FL ; sisters, Diana (John) Davidson of Jacksonville, FL and Marsha Neeley of Decatur, TN; 3 grandchildren, Christen, Daniel, and Brooke; and great granddaughter, Alexis.
Funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 12:30 p.m., on, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
