Mr. George A. Knighton, 75 of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Shands at the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville.  He was born in Miami, Florida to the late Carl and Katherine Perry Knighton and had lived in Lake City since 1976.  Mr. Knighton was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City.  He retired after 30 years of employment in 2002 from the Columbia County School District having taught at both Columbia High School and Fort White High School.  Mr. Knighton was a volunteer for many years with Catholic Charities in Lake City.  He was an avid reader especially Bible history, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Knighton.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Pam Knighton, Lake City; one son, Michael Knighton (Iris), Rosh Ha`ayin, Israel; one daughter, Michelle T. Fitzgerald (Ken), Rockville, MD; one brother, Gary Knighton, Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Ariel and Shenhav Knighton and Brett Chavis; and his cousin, George Perry (Emma), Lake City.

A funeral mass will be conducted on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Epiphany Catholic Church with Father Rob Trujillo officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Lake City at 258 NW Burk Avenue, Lake City, FL 32055.
