George Edward Alderman, 82, of Lake City, FL. died early Wednesday morning July 7, 2010 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, Florida following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Joseph Theodore and Martha Walker Alderman. Mr. Alderman served two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina before entering the University of Florida in 1954. He made his home in Lake City for the past 43 years after moving here from Gainesville, FL. He retired after working for over thirty years for the Social Security Administration. He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, nature, camping and playing the guitar, but above all he enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years of marriage Mrs. Norvelle Alderman, Lake City, FL; one son, Joe Alderman (Mary) of Houston, TX; Two daughters, Pam Sawyer (Henry) & Phyllis Hawkins (Drew) both of Winter Springs, FL; seven grandchildren, Andy (Tressa), Jay, T.J., Zach, Lindsay, Becca, and Sarah also survive.
Funeral Services for Mr. Alderman will be conducted Friday July 9, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Louie Mabrey, Officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund or Haven Hospice, 6037 U.S. Hwy 90 West, Lake City, FL 32055.
