Fred Paul Godbey, 77, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center. He was born in Elk View, West Virginia to the late Howard Ray and Effie "Parker" Godbey and had lived in Columbia County since 1986, having moved here from Gainesville, Florida. Fred faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force. He was a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather who enjoyed watching stock car racing, fishing, and tinkering around the house. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ruhl Godbey and his sister, Margaret Hawkins.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 26 years, Nancy E. Godbey of Lake City, FL; sons, Tommy Moore of Hayes, VA and William L. Swayze III of Lake City, FL; daughter, Amanda Ohmstede of Sanford, FL; brother, Clifford Godbey of Charleston, WV; sisters, Phyllis Brohard of Mebane, NC and Carol Fox of Nitro, WV; 7 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers you can make donations to the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice), 6037 US Hwy 90 West, Lake City, Florida 32055.
