Emory Marcus Phillips, aged 86, passed away on July 21, 2023. Emory was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 14, 1936 to Herman Phillips and Dorothy Sheppard Phillips. The family moved to Lake City, Florida around 1944. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1955 where he lettered in many sports. He enlisted into the US Army in 1955 and became a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell Kentucky, and 1st Calvary, Korea. After his military service he went on to be a salesman, which was a job turned career that he would later retire from. Emory was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed playing golf, keeping up with college football, and working jigsaw puzzles. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed his family and was eager to support them in ways that he could.
Emory was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark A. Phillips, and his sisters Mary Beth Phillips Marlowe and Patricia (Pat) Williams. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Phillips Cason, former wife, Barbara Phillips, his grandchildren - Taylor Hires (Jared), Jacob Gardner (Kristen), Matthew Turner (Cecile), and Samantha Lawrence (Austin), and six great-grandchildren as well as nieces and great nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at First Advent Christian Church in Lake City, FL at 11 am on Friday July 28, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
