Rev. Elijah Hammons, 88, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 28, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Knox County, Kentucky on July 14, 1929 to the late Lee and Mollie Hale Hammons. He was a Pastor for over 30 years, and enjoyed camping, fishing, reading and traveling. He was also a United States Army veteran. He is preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Vernice Carmack Hammons of Lake City, son; Tony Hammons (Linda) of Lake City and daughter; Linda Bethea (Steve) of Lake City; sisters; Charity Crawford and Betty Smith both of Kentucky. Five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Rev. Hammons will be conducted on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 A.M. (one hour prior to the services) at the funeral home.
