Obituary

Eleanor Dickens Morton, 88, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City.

She was born in Tallahassee on May 18, 1936 to the late Hyman Brewton Dickens and Edith Zora Dickens. She made Lake City her home for most of her life and was of the Episcopalian Faith. She earned her RN credentials from St Vincent's School of Nursing in Jacksonville and her certified registered nurse anesthetist degree (CRNA) from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.  She worked as a Registered Nurse and CRNA for the duration of her professional career.  In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her pets, cooking, tubing the Ichetucknee, antiquing, and cheering on the Florida Gators. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Suzanne Morton and her sister, Frances Thompson.

She is survived by her son, Fred Morton, Jr. (Mary) of Williamsburg, VA, daughters, Cindy Morton Pitman (Bill) of Lake City and Becky Morton Cooper (Jeff Shank) of Jacksonville Beach. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

A private family graveside service will be held for Mrs. Morton. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Haven Hospice, 6037 W. US HWY 90, Lake City, FL, 32055 or to the Lake City Humane Society, 1392 NW Shelter Glen, Lake City, FL, 32055.
