Dr. Hubert Dean Moore

Dr. Hubert Dean Moore, Sr., 90, of Lake City, Florida, went to his Heavenly home on Wednesday evening, August 5, 2026, at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, Florida. He was born in Caruth, MO, on December 24, 1935 to the late Olin J. Moore and Ida Moore Holmes.

Dean earned a Bachelor’s from the University of Oklahoma, and Master’s and Doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado. He served in the US Army and was a member of the 13th Special Forces (Green Berets). He retired from Sun Oil Company where he served in several different states and traveled worldwide. He then joined Southern Wesleyan University, Central, SC, as Vice President of Development.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, where he served as a deacon. For many years he was a member of the Rotary Club, active in youth sports, and a member of the Order of the Arrow and Boy Scouts of America. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Dean and his wife spent many years traveling in all 50 states and 128 different countries.

Dean is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dr. Emma Sims Moore, one son Hubert Dean Moore, Jr., (Ann Marie Fletcher Moore), four grandchildren Christopher, Kathryn, Andrew, and Aimee Leigh, and one great granddaughter Rachel, all of West Chester, PA, as well as brothers-in-law Bobby Sims (Sharon) and Tommy Sims (Susan) of Branford, FL, and several nieces and nephews of Branford, FL, Lake City, FL, and Memphis, TN.

Funeral services for Dr. Moore will be conducted on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Bass and Rev. Carl Chauncey officiating. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Branford, Florida at 2:00 PM. For family and friends attending the interment, a procession will depart from the First Baptist Church of Lake City at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lake City at 182 Justice Street, Lake City, FL 32055 or the Boy Scouts of America.
