Dortha Rae Mowbray Childs, 79, of Lake City, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 after an extended illness. Born in Caroline County, Maryland on December 11, 1941, Dortha was one of fourteen children to the late John H. Mowbray and Pauline Bradley Mowbray, and has made Lake City her home since 1980. She was a LPN, licensed since 1961, earning her LPN certificate from Cambridge Maryland Hospital, retiring in 2014-2015. She was of the Baptist faith, and is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Terrell D. Childs in 2016 and several siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Frankie Stewart of Delaware and John Terrell Childs of Lake City; daughters, Tammie Childs of Lake City and Wendy Coates of Gainesville; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren along with several  brothers and sisters also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Childs will be conducted on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Robert Bass officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening, February 18, 2021 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to your local VA Medical Center.
