Dorothy Lee Sammons, 82, of Lake City, Florida, went to be with Jesus on September 20, 2015, following an extended illness.  She was born in Lee, Florida to Lee and Dovie Thomas on January 21, 1933.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed attending church, and was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lake City, Florida.  She was also an excellent cook, and enjoyed serving up dishes for her family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Sammons; her grandsons, Matthew Fletcher and Ryan Koon; and her great grandson Braden Register.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Health Center of Lake City and  Haven Hospice for the wonderful, loving care, they gave our mother, you are the best.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Talatha (Mike) Harvey of St. Augustine, Florida, Phyllis Benefield of Newberry, Florida, Jennifer (Donnie) Creamer and Lona (Johnny) Baxter of Lake City, Florida; her sons: Marvin Berry and Wayne Berry of Lake City, Florida; her grandchildren: Mandy Yoder, Josh Berry (Shana), Wayne Lee Berry, Kelli (Enondrus) Phillips, Shelley Berry, Ashley Smith and Harley Baxter; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Reverend Ronald Russ officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service time (10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice), 6037 W. US Hwy 90, Lake City, Florida 32055.
