Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Edna Burson Haynes, 88, of Lake City, Fl., passed away Monday, November 3, 2014 following an extended illness.

Dot was born February 1, 1926 in Lake City, Fl., the fourth child of Johnie and Lonia Mae Burson. Dot grew up in the Fort Myers, Fl., graduating from Fort Myers Senior High School in 1945. In 1946, Dot moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she met her husband Bill Haynes. Dot and Bill were married on December 4, 1945m at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. Dot retired from Macy's with 25 years of loyal service and moved back to Lake City, Fl., in 1997. Active in the community, she was attended the First Presbyterian Church and Volunteered at Lake Shore Hospital for 12 years. She was a member of the Edward Rutledge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Olustee Chapter of the Untied Daughters of the Confederacy and the Treaty of Ghent Chapter United States Daughters of 1812. She loved genealogy, tracing her family's root and history. She was also an avid collector of Dolls, which she fussed over constantly. She loved the outdoors and could frequently be seen working in her yard. Deeply devoted to family, Dot was a regular visitor at the VA Hospital during Bill's eight year stay. She did not hesitate to stand up for her beliefs, and her family was foremost. A wonderful, loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, Dot was both gracious and generous, her humor and wit were defining elements of her personality.

Dot was predeceased by her husband Bill Haynes, brothers; Paul Burson and James Burson, sisters; Sue Austin and Lauise Howard.

She is survived by her son; Douglas Haynes, her daughter-in-law; Gwen, and her grandson; Zachary al of St. Pete, Fl., her sisters; Cathy Brown, Bradenton, Fl., Virginia Bradley, of Venice, Fl., and her brother John Burson, of Englewood, Fl., and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

An inurnment of Bill and Dot's ashes will be held at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl., at 11:00 a.m. on December 4, 2014, which will be on their 60th wedding anniversary. In lieu of flowers the familt requests that donations be made in their name to any of the following; Alzheimer's Association, Autism Foundation, or to Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley.
